A major conference studying vernacular buildings will be held in Birstall and Liversedge next weekend.
Vernacular buildings are those which are typical for an area, built from local materials and following a local style.
The event, at the Black Bull in Birstall on May 17-19, is organised by the Yorkshire Vernacular Buildings Study Group, supported by Spen Valley Civic Society and the Spen Valley Historial Society,
On Friday May 17, there will be a talk on the history of the area by Gillian Cookson and dinner at the Healds Hall Hotel in Liversedge.
The following day teams will be out recording buildings. In the evening there will be a talk on Oakwell Hall and the Batt family followed by dinner at the Black Bull in Birstall, and the final day will be discussions and a walkabout. For more information or to book a place email email@example.com.
