HUNSWORTH has been free of any mischievous birds this week, as the village’s annual scarecrow festival took centre stage.
This year’s festival has proved to be the biggest ever in the village, with dozens of scarecrows lining the streets.
The festival encourages local people to get involved and make their very own unusual scarecrow creations.
This year’s event has seen Olympic themed scarecrows, as well as classic children’s characters Spider-man, Zebedee and the Queen of Hearts.
Someone has also been drinking plenty of milk, as Ivor Lottabottles the milkman was made out of about 15 milk bottles!
One of the organisers, Diane Kenny, said: “It has brought people into the village – people have been coming during the evening and having a look round – it is great to see.
“I am pleased with how the festival has gone this year – most of the people in the community have got involved.
“It gives us a great sense of community spirit and really brings the town alive – we can’t wait for next year’s competition.”
On Sunday there will be a balloon release in Hunsworth park in Green Lane at 1pm followed by prizegiving for the best scarecrows.
