MP Mike Wood has accused hospital bosses of being ‘underhand and duplicitous’ after they revealed that 250 beds will go from Dewsbury and District Hospital.

The changes mean that two thirds of the beds would disappear under the proposals, leaving Dewsbury with just 110.

Also in this week’s paper, a Cleckheaton butcher’s shop has been named king of the pies after scooping a top award.

And a former solicitor from Liversedge who went on the run for 12 years has admitted swindling clients out of more than £1m.

Plus a teenager from Heckmondwike has been sentenced to eight years in a young offenders institution after pistol-whipping an off-duty police inspector.

We also have a picture special on the fantastic Christmas lights switch-on in Cleckheaton at the weekend, and a round-up of Children in Need events.
