Pupils from Birkenshaw Middle School, marked World Fairtrade Day with a visit to St Paul’s Church in Birkenshaw.
Members of the church’s Call-In, which meets every Tuesday, welcomed the youngsters to join them for the morning.
Pupils, staff and Call-In members were treated to a Fairtrade Fondue with warm melted chocolate and fresh strawberries. The Mayor of Kirklees, Coun Eric Firth, who has supported Fairtrade for many years, was also among the guests. He said: “It was a privilege to be there with the youngsters, and the not-so-youngsters!”
He congratulated the school on becoming the first secondary school in Kirklees to achieve Fairtrade Status.
