A LEGEND almost as great as Santa Claus came to Heckmondwike to switch on the town’s Christmas lights.
Football fans were delighted when former Huddersfield Town striker Andy Booth came to press the button and illuminate the streets.
More than 4,000 people gathered in the town centre to see him light up Heckmondwike as well as enjoy entertainment from Stuart Stage School, circus performers and animals.
Chamber of Trade president Howard Cook said: “It was a fantastic night. It was the best one we’ve ever had. Everybody was saying how brilliant it was.
“Everyone was cheering for Andy Booth and the Stuart Stage School dancers arrived on the sleigh. They made a great entrance.
“There were reindeer and clowns walking up and down the streets.
“We also opened the Ponderosa shop which gives information on everything we are doing in Heckmondwike.
“The event has taken a lot of putting together – there is only a few of us in Heckmondwike Chamber of Trade.
“But everyone had a fantastic time.”
