A 77-year-old man from Liversedge was killed after his car crashed on the M1 near Rotherham.
On Saturday at 11am, the man was travelling southbound to Tamworth when he collapsed at the wheel of the blue Nissan Almeria Tino he was driving.
The female passenger then put on the hanbrake, before the car slid across the carrigeway and overturned.
The 72-year-old female passenger, also from Liversedge, suffered slight bruising, and was treated in the same hospital before being released. South Yorkshire Police are appealing for information – anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to call South Yorkshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 356.
