EAST met west during an exchange between teachers from Birkenshaw and Bangladesh.

In September two members of staff from Birkenshaw Primary travelled to Bangladesh to visit a school there, as part of a scheme funded by the British Council.

And just before Christmas it was the Spen school’s turn to reciprocate and welcome two members of staff from their twin school thousands of miles away.

Acting headteacher Rebecca Martin said: “It’s about seeing how both our education systems work and how children learn in different ways. For example, the children in Bangladesh don’t have the same access to ICT and other resources that ours have. It’s been so interesting learning about each other’s cultures, and pupils and staff have got so much out of it. The aim is to continue this link now, doing work together through emails and webcams.”
