A Level resuts 2012 - Heckmondwike Grammar. (D543A233)
JUBILANT students at Heckmondwike Grammar School have been celebrating their A-level results, achieving a record-breaking haul of top grades.
The school, which had a record number of pupils sitting their A-levels, saw 100 per cent pass rates in almost all subjects and seven students are now heading to either Oxford or Cambridge.
More than half of all pupils achieved at least one A grade as the school surpassed even its own high standards.
James Heseltine received a whopping five A* grades, and has been accepted by Selwyn College, Cambridge, to study Natural Sciences.
He achieved the grades in maths, further maths, additional further maths, chemistry and physics – plus two other A grades and a Baccalaureate distinction – making him among the highest-acheiving A-level students in the country.
James said: “It was a lot of hard work, because I did the extra maths subjects quite late on, so I had a lot of work to squeeze in, but I still found time for my friends!
“I would like to thank both the school and my parents for the support they have given me during my A-levels.”
Headteacher Mike Cook said: “The students had to get even higher grades than usual this year because of the increased competition for places, and I am very pleased they achieved it.”
