Alexa, 10, to join dad on abseil

WHEN proud dad Phil Farrar steps out onto the roof of Manchester United's Old Trafford stadium, it won't be the height that gives him the jitters.

Phil, 39, will be joined by his 10-year-old daughter Alexa for the sponsored abseil at the end of the month, to raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

Alexa, who suffers from cystic fibrosis, will be joining her father on the descent down from Old Trafford's towering North Stand on March 28.

"I've done lots of sponsored abseils for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust and I've walked Ben Nevis as well, but this will be the first time that Alexa can get involved too," Phil said.

"She loves thrilling stuff and big events and she's really excited about joining me on this one.

"She's watched me take part in other activities in the past and she's been asking me if she could do them as well but this is the first time that she's been old enough to do it – she can't wait."

Liverpool fan Phil, who played football for Hightown Liberal Club, the Rose and Crown and the Rising Sun, in Scholes, now lives in Preston with his wife Dianne, Alexa and five-year-old Amelia.

Phil added: "This is about raising people's awareness of cystic fibrosis and raising money for the trust which is researching cures for the disease.

"So many people have the disease in their own families or know friends with cystic fibrosis. When we do this, we realise how much it really is out there."

Phil and Alexa have already had to raise 140 to take part and have set up a Just Giving site for more people to get involved in their efforts. Those who raise over 250 will enter a prize draw to win a pair of defender Nemanja Vidic's match-day boots.

"I'm just looking forward to seeing Alexa's face, hopefully overcome with excitement!" Phil said.

"She might only be a little one, but she really wants to raise money for the CF Trust and do her best."
