Any chance school can be left alone?

RE Coun Ken Smith's announcement that he has imaginative plans for the reorganisation of primary schools in Hightown (Spenborough Guardian February 19).

A telephone call to him reveals that these plans are so imaginative that that's just where they are – in his imagination. No work has been done on them at all, not even a feasibility study.

When Kirklees closed the R M Grylls Middle School we at High Bank agreed to become a three to 11 primary school. This was on the understanding that when the reorganisation/Better Schools for the Future agenda was being planned we would be first.

It is quite obvious, after all the plans have been announced for the rest of the schools in the Whitcliffe Mount Pyramid that we have been left till last.

We at High Bank have an excellent small school. Whilst Kirklees are quite happy to have small schools in the Holme Valley and as close as Hartshead, they have made several attempts to close us down.

We have the best Ofsted report in our area, our standards are excellent. (sse the available data and our children over perform!).

Our classes are small so each child gets that valuable individual attention. We excel at academic subjects and music, dance and art.

Our building is in first class condition and we have extensive green surroundings. I won't even start to sing the praises of our excellent staff lest I embarrass them.

It's been great to have these older children in our school because they have really contributed to school life. What is very disappointing to my fellow governors and I, the parents and the staff is that we are still left in limbo.

Any chance of being left alone to get on with educating our children?
