Local musicians are taking centre stage tonight at the first Cleckheaton Online Radio unsigned music awards.
The radio station, set up in June by Wayne Davidson to play music by local unsigned bands, is hosting the ceremony at Cleckheaton’s own Hahll tonight – and more than 10,000 votes have been cast by listeners.
Wayne said: “We have got some really good support from the community, but if we didn’t have the bands and artists who give us free music and do gigs for us, there wouldn’t be a station – so we wanted to do something to reward them.
“We got more than 10,000 votes over the internet and will announce the winners at the ceremony. It’s going to be brilliant.”
The radio station is in Woodroyd Mills, South Parade, Cleckheaton, which full time dad Wayne runs, with DJs John Hetherington, Laura Moo Morton and Little John.
The event will feature live performances from nominees including Peculiar Blue, Jade Helliwell, What ft Shady Tenors, Eternal Teenage Syndrome, Ocean City and Will Booth.
The event is also being filmed by Dewsbury TV.
Wayne said the event was almost sold out but some tickets were still available.
He said: “It’s gone better than we thought it would. We would have been happy if only 10 people turned up but for people to come out and buy all the tickets is amazing.”
