Birkby's advice at major conference

THE BOSS of a local firm descended on a Yorkshire beauty spot to speak to delegates at a manufacturing conference.

Chief Executive of Liversedge based Birkby's Plastics, Ian Parker, addressed 200 people at the event at Rudding Park, Harrogate which was organised by the Manufacturing Advisory Service Yorkshire & Humber (MAS Y and H).

He was joined by regional minister for Yorkshire and Humber, Rosie Winterton and representatives from companies all over the region.

The one day conference, which was packed with seminars and activities, was held in conjunction with Yorkshire Forward and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and managed by YFM Business Development, a subsidiary of YFM Group.

The group provides advice and support to manufacturing businesses to improve productivity and efficiency.

Chairman of Yorkshire Forward, Terry Hodgkinson, said: "It is vital that we support the manufacturing industry as we know that a strong manufacturing sector is the foundation of a sound economy - particularly in the current climate.

"This event provided manufacturers with advice and a platform to network with other regional businesses which has enabled them to capitalise on potential opportunities."
