Blind cyclist wheels in over £12,000 for charity

A BLIND fundraiser is taking a well-earned rest after raking in more than £12,000 from a charity bike ride.

Eamon Preston, 31, who is totally blind, cycled tandem from Liverpool to Hartshead Moor Working Men's Club along the Trans Pennine Cycle Way, in memory of his mother Maureen Preston, who died of breast cancer in 2007.

Eamon and his 14 friends, known as the Preston Peddlers, cycled the 90-mile route in October last year, in aid of Cancer Research and raised 12,642.

Eamon handed over the cheque at a presentation evening at the club last month.

He thanked the ladies' darts and dominoes team for their 24-hour marathon, all local businesses for their support, Huddersfield Town Football Club for its generosity and Icelolly.com, who also contributed.

He added: "When I first came up with the idea of a bike ride, I was expecting to raise something in the region of 500 to 1,000.

"The final figure is not a tribute to me, but to everybody involved."

Eamon is now planning another charity bike ride which will take place later in the year.
