Spen folk who have made hundreds of blood donations have been recognised for their help saving lives.
Peter Ellis, Ian Russell and Stephen Tranmer received awards from NHS Blood and Transplant at a ceremony with 80 other donors.
Peter received a crystal award for 100 donations, which only one per cent of blood donors achieve.
Ian and Stephen were presented with a crystal award for reaching 75 donations.
Donna Batty, lead donor relations manager at NHS Blood and Transplant, said that donors could have helped save the lives of up to 300 patients in local hospitals with 100 donations, and up to 225 people with 75 donations.
“It is amazing to see the dedication of these long-standing donors,” she said. “They are an inspiration to us all and we hope that others will follow in their footsteps to save and improve the lives of many people.
Anyone aged between 17 and 65, weighing more than 7st 12lbs and in general good health can become a blood donor.
