Boys hit by phone robbers

THREE boys have been robbed of their mobile phones robbed in two incidents.

Two 14-year-old boys were walking to school on the Spen Valley Greenway behind Morrison’s in Heckmondwike when they passed three youths sitting on a pipe.

The youths started to walk away but stopped and demanded the boys’ phones. One was holding a knife.

The boys handed over their phones and the men fled. The youth with the knife was Asian, about 18, 6ft, medium build and wearing a grey hoodie.

The second was white, about 18, over 6ft and wearing a blue hoodie with Wills on the back in white letters.

The third youth was white, smaller than the others and wearing a black hoodie and black tracksuit bottoms ripped at the back.

Witnesses to the robbery, which took place on July 13 at 8.10am, are asked to contact Det Con Peter Usher at Huddersfield CID on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Two days later a 12-year-old boy was on the swings with four friends in Firth Park, Heckmondwike, when they were approached by three men.

One boy ran away after one of the men asked to use his mobile phone. The group then grabbed the 12-year-old victim, taking his mobile phone and running off. The victim went home and told his parents, who drove around looking for the suspects.

They saw one man on Longfield Road, who dropped the stolen mobile phone. The suspects were lost at the cricket pitch on Cemetery Road.

Five men aged 18 to 22 were arrested on suspicion of robbery and bailed. Witnesses should contact Huddersfield Det Con Andy Clayton via 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

Insp Tim Holland, from Spen NPT, said: “These were cowardly attacks on children. These incidents are being taken seriously. We urge any witnesses to contact police.”
