Burglary rate down across the valley

burglaries in Spen have fallen by 20 per cent, Kirklees’ divisional commander has revealed.
The number of break-ins reported fell from 410 in 2010/11 to 320 in 2011/12 according to official police figures.
Divisional Commander David Lunn visited Spen police chief Insp Tim Holland on Tuesday and praised the work of local bobbies in fighting crime over the last two years.
“Over the last two years, crime across all of Kirklees has continued to fall,” he said.
“The public’s satisfaction with the force and its confidence in us has continued to rise.”
He said that there were several factors for this, including the role local police teams played in their communities and the reassurance of public patrols.
Mr Lunn said that Spen residents had their own part to play in ensuring crime continues to fall.
He said: “If people become good neighbours and listen to the advice put out by police, they will help us reduce crime further.
“It’s about reporting suspicious things to police and joining Neighbourhood Watch groups.
“We aim to reduce crime even further across the whole division.”
