Call to microchip cats

A call is being made for cats to be microchipped - just like dogs.

A petition has started by Paige Rush, from Motherwell, asks for government action to help cut down on the number of strays by chipping all domestic felines. The petition, on change.org, cites the fact that many cats, “classed as the animals that go and wander”, will often not return, being attacked by foxes and dogs.

The cat-lover, from Motherwell, also points out that rescue centres are bursting at the seams when the owners of animals could easily be contacted to collect their pets.

It’s intended that the petition, which already has over 30,000 signatures, will be delivered to Prime Minister David Cameron, as well as Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon.
