Club steward hurt in attack
A GOMERSAL man was left covered in blood after being attacked while walking home along Drub Lane on Monday night.
Club steward Phil Cook has spoken of his shock at being attacked with such force that he was left with a blood blister on the back of his head.
The 57-year-old was making the short journey from Drub Working Men's Club to his home at around 10.20pm.
He said he had no recollection of the attack which left him needing treatment at Dewsbury and District Hospital.
Mr Cook said: "I was walking home from the club and that's about as much as I remember. I have a hole in my head, which the doctors said was caused by a blunt instrument.
"The attackers didn't take anything, but I wasn't carrying a wallet. All I had on me was a packed of ciggarettes, a lighter and a 5 note."
"I just remember walking down the lane, halfway between the club and home, and that's the last thing I remember."
He managed to stagger home covered in blood, which his son, Andy, helped clean off before an ambulance was called.
Andy said: "There was blood everywhere, but he didn't realise he was bleeding until my mum saw him and screamed.
"The ambulance got here within five minutes and the doctors were really good. They managed to glue the wound together."
Mr Cook said he felt 'sore' after the attack and suffered some minor cuts and bruises, as well as the head wound.
