Contractor's drive leads to yet another award

AN award winning landscaper has been driven to even further success with another prize.

Rob Hudson, a contractor for patio and driveway construction company Marshalls, won the best regional driveway transformation award at the company's annual awards ceremony.

It is the second year running Rob has been recognised at the awards - last year he won the regional best patio transformation and runner up for the most ethically sourced Indian stone awards.

He said: "The prize was for a little cottage in Cleckheaton. It was a tarmac driveway and we completely transformed it. There were curves and different shapes in which made it stand out from the rest. It was quite a big job because it was such an awkward style which is probably one of the reasons why it won.

"Last year I thought I had quite a good chance but this year it was just a small drive. When the second prize came up it was really big and I thought there was no chance, so I was a bit taken aback.

"To us workers it means quite a lot. To win last year and to win again makes me feel proud."

Meanwhile, Mirfield construction company Grace Landscapes Limited has been named employer of the year at a national industry award ceremony.

The company, which is celebrating 30 years, was given the accolade by the British Association of Landscape Industries (BALI).

The company has grown from a one man enterprise by owner Tim Grace to a national company employing more than 150 people.

It takes on a wide range of jobs from clearing allotment sites to constructing and maintaining landscape projects on supermarket developments.

The company maintains the grounds of Leeds' White Rose Centre and has helped the centre win many awards from Yorkshire In Bloom.

Chairman Hugh Pawsey said: "We are very pleased with the recognition for the company in receiving this prestigious national award from the lead body with in the landscape industry."
