Council to vote on £22m budget cut

22 million

22 million

Councillors will decide whether to approve £22m of cuts at a meeting next week.

The budget proposals reveal cuts to staffing and changes to council services, including changes to parking tariffs and the hours of charging.

Kirklees Council plans to use £8m from its reserves to reduce the £30m in savings it needs to make this year to £22m.

The council’s spending plans also show the predicted cuts rising to £33m by 2014/15 and £39m by 2015/16.

Around £855,000 will be axed in the staffing budget in investment, regeneration and Streetscene and a further £356,000 in housing and building services.

There will be 82 fewer staff between 2012/13 and 2015/16 in the council’s children and young people service.

In February 2011, there was cross party agreement from the Kirklees Labour, Conservative and Liberal Democrat groups for a three-year budget.

Last week, councillors on Kirklees Cabinet backed the budget proposals between now and 2015/16. The proposals will go to a full council meeting on Wednesday.
