Crash in Heckmondwike

One person was taken to hospital last night after a road traffic collision took place in Heckmondwike.

Units from Batley and Cleckheaton were called to the incident at 6.50pm in Dale Lane after two cars shunted together.

one of the drivers had to be cut out of the vehicle as fire crews removed the roof of his car. He was taken to Dewsbury and District Hospital with suspected spinal injuries.

Firefighter Nigel Crabtree said: “The driver received injuries, but he was wearing a seatbelt, had he not been, his injuries would have been far worse.”

The road was reopened before 7.30pm.
