Father’s ‘out of this world’ experience

a HECKMONDWIKE man described the night he had his very own ‘X Files’ experience in previously classified documents on UFOs released by the Ministry of Defence.
The man had been out for dinner in Leeds with his wife, son and daughter in law on September 13, 2003, when he saw “two circular objects, about half the apparent size of the moon”, floating over the family home.
In the document, which is one of 8,000 on UFOs just released by the National Archives, the Royal Armouries employee said the objects were travelling in straight lines, on parallel courses, towards the south west.
He said: “The two objects moved together, almost touched and then separated to resume their original courses and spacing before disappearing over the neighbour’s rooftop. During this manoeuvre their speeds, that were not excessive, remained unchanged. The changes of direction of both objects being smooth and controlled.
“The appearance of both objects was the same, of a very dull yellow, not bright but definitely self-luminous. The outer edges of both objects were not well defined giving the impression of being either jagged or fuzzy.”
The man said that as soon as he had grasped what was happening, he shouted to his son to look up to the sky.
In his statement, he said it was difficult to define the objects’ height or size, but the impression was that they were not very high, maybe a few hundreds of feet. The whole sighting lasted no more than about five seconds.
The extraterrestrial files contain the largest release of documents so far by The National Archives and reveal sightings in Dewsbury, Leeds and Huddersfield.
Covering the years 2000 – 2005, they reveal UFO sightings and reports, colour photographs, drawings, RAF investigations and the government’s policy on UFOs.
