Fears over loss of green land

CONSERVATIONISTS say they are worried that a green buffer between Batley and Heckmondwike is being gradually eroded.

At their monthly meeting on Thursday Spen Valley Civic Society discussed an outline planning application by the executors of Ernest and Nora Lenton to demolish a house at 105 White Lee Road, to make way for 14 new houses together with access.

Members of the society said it was the latest in a series of developments at White Lee.

Secretary Erica Amende said: “Gradually White Lee Road, which is a lovely bit of countryside, is being built on. If this plan goes ahead, there will only be a small section of green fields left.” Treasurer Colin Berry sadded: “I think it’s safe to assume it will all be built on, because the precedent has been set.
