THERE’LL be fireworks tonight – at a huge display taking place at Hartshead.

The extravaganza is at both Hollybank School and neighbouring Whiteley’s Garden Centre in Far Common Road, which is organising the free display and the first of the fireworks will be set off by Holly Bear, Hollybank’s mascot.

Helen Thompson, department manager at Whiteley’s, said: “We are setting out Hollybank’s field for the firework display and marking out the area for the funfair on our car park.

“This is the first time we have done the fireworks evening like this with Hollybank and incorporated a family funfair. We really hope it will be a big success with plenty of families coming along – this is our chance to give something back to the community.”

The event includes a barbeque, hog roast, funfair, stalls and emergency services. The funfair begins at 5pm with the firework display scheduled for 7pm. The community team from Huddersfield Town Football Club will be there as well and will raffle off a signed football from the team.

Suzanne Barton, corporate fundraiser for Hollybank, said: “We are looking forward to welcoming people into our beautiful grounds which are looking very autumnal. It’s great to be able to continue our good relationship with Whiteleys with events like this.”

Stalls will sell sweets, halloween and seasonal gifts. Kids can enjoy spooky face painting. Tickets for Hollybank’s Christmas Cracker raffle will be on sale, with the chance to win £1,000, a hamper or a smaller cash prize.
