Footpath opens in memory of parks man

A FOOTPATH has been opened to remember the life of popular Bradford parks manager Barrie Tinker.

Tinker's Trail now runs through Judy Woods from the Woodside entrance's new 'kissing gates' and was opened by Bradford Coun Anne Hawkesworth.

Barrie was the parks and landscape manager for Bradford Council until his death in 2008 and his family – wife Janet and children Hannah and John – were invited to the opening of the footpath.

The path is a result of work between the council's leisure services department and community group Friends of Judy Wood to create the scenic walk through the woods, with disabled access and picnic areas. It was funded through a grant scheme managed by Groundwork UK – a partner of the Big Lottery Fund.

Peter Walker, chairman of the Friends of Judy Woods, said: "Barrie would've been pleased that the path has now been opened. Many years ago, one of our first projects together was opening a similar footpath on the Wyke end of the woods.

"I'm sure its going to be popular with people during the summer, especially with there being a picnic tables at the top end."
