Get mayor to re-open Greenway

GREAT news that the Spen Valley Greenway opens up in the next few weeks. So why don't we celebrate this by bringing the mayor of Kirklees over to reopen the much loved cycle and walkway?

A number of charities have used this route in the past. We could make this into a real family charity day with local good cause's benefiting once again.

Schools could be encouraged to be involved as well. With it being reported that Yorkshire Water is saying that the Greenway opening is on time and all work will be finished in April, then surly the May Day weekend, if not the May Day Bank Holiday Monday - May 3 - it would be perfect.

We could have somebody like Andy Booth from Huddersfield Town who is the club ambassador and who could help open the Greenway.

Who knows, we may be able to persuade him to walk for the Terriers' adopted good cause which is the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

If the press and media are invited, such as Look North and Calendar as well as the local newspapers we could make this into a very special day.

I do feel that people should be able to cycle or walk for their own chosen charity and if we start organising this soon I am sure everything could be done. Thinking while I am writing, there used to be lots of charity collections done by pubs, why not again?

It would be a great way to open the Greenway again.
