Halloween and festive fun

HALLOWEEN and Christmas festivities are being planned by traders in Cleckheaton.

Spenborough Chamber of Trade outlined its plans at a meeting on Tuesday at Blend Cafe Bar.

The Halloween celebrations will be held on October 27 with a trick-or-treat day for parents and children in the centre of Cleckheaton.

The event will take place from 10am and it is hoped shop owners in the area will also take part in the fancy dress. The event will also feature a Dragon’s Den-style challenge for children.

The Christmas lights switch-on will take place three weeks later on Saturday, November 17. It will see the return of Father Christmas, a raffle and the Rev Brunel James plans to hold a prayer and carol service in the centre of town.

The chamber is still on the lookout for volunteers to join the lights committee and help out with the event. Anybody who is interested in joining the committee can contact Sue Shaw at sueshaw875@btinternet.com.

The meeting also heard that plans for next year’s Cleckheaton Folk Festival are already underway, with organiser David Minich paying tribute to the businesses which got involved in this year’s event.

David once again invited businesses to set up stalls in the centre of town after the success of this year’s Fiver Fest.
