Heckmondwike Free Music Festival, known as Heckyfest, could not go ahead this year, its organiser has warned.
Donal O’Driscoll has been told by Kirklees Council a funding decision won’t be made until one month before the festival, and that the money will be less than previous years if it is granted at all.
Donal, who has organised the festival for the past 11 years, said: “I understand money is tight for the council but I was shocked to hear how late the decision will be. We have to secure essential services now.
“Kirklees have been fantastic to work with. If it wasn’t for them we wouldn’t have had a third festival never mind the eleventh one last July.
“After all the hard work that’s been put into Heckyfest over the past seven years it would be devastating to lose it now.”
The event is scheduled to go ahead on Saturday 19 July. See Friday’s Spenborough Guardian for more.
