Home is where the 'harty' is

A TERRITORIAL soldier from Liversedge has received his operational service medal after completing a tour of duty in Afghanistan.

Daniel 'Harty' Hart works for Cummins Engineering as a factory maintenance engineer.

However, as a territorial, he has spent the last six months with the army.

During his time in Afghanistan he was attached to a Non-Commissioned Officer Training Team.

They helped to monitor and nurture potential NCOs in the Afghanistan National Army (ANA).

He was located at Shindand a large town of 100,000 people in Farah Province, which borders Iran, in the west of Afghanistan.

On returning from their tour of duty 29-year-old Daniel, and fellow members of the 4th Battalion The Yorkshire Regiment paraded in front of family, friends and onlooking race-goers to receive their medals.

The ceremony was held at York Race Course.

Daniel is married to Carolyn and they have a four-year-old son Bradley.

The Battalion's commanding officer Lieutenant Colonel David Rhodes praised Cpl Hart and his colleagues for their dedication.

"These were demanding and skilled tasks undertaken in testing conditions and with a threat of explosive devices and contacts by insurgents. The majority of these soldiers have civilian jobs.

"They have put these - and their family lives - on hold for six months to serve their country.Their friends and families have supported them and are justly proud of them for the role they played."

They received their medals from Colonel Julian Fox.
