Hundreds bid farewell to popular Becky
IT was standing room only at the funeral of a 20-year-old student killed in a tragic car accident.
Hundreds of family members and friends filled St Peter’s Church, Birstall, to say goodbye to Rebecca Caine, known as Becky, who died in a head-on collision on the M62 in the early hours of September 16.
The Leeds Carnegie University student, who also worked for her father at Vitrition UK in Heckmondwike, was an aspiring model and actress. She would have begun the final year of her business management course last week.
Rebecca’s pink casket, with a floral ‘B’ tribute on top, was brought to the church by a horse-drawn hearse as people braved the rain to pay their respects.
Some of the mourners wore pink accessories while others carried single pink gerbera daisies for Tuesday’s service, which described Rebecca as a “shining light”.
In a family dedication read by Father Simon Lodge, Rebecca’s father Tim said Rebecca was a happy child.
He said: “She could charm a pauper or a prince.
“In many ways she was more like a mate than a daughter. We always had a right good laugh.
“Nothing will ever fill the emptiness we now feel and the tragedy of her loss.
“We have lost a daughter, a sister, a granddaughter, a cousin, a niece and a special friend to many.
“I have also lost a best mate and the world has lost a beautiful, shining light.”
Rebecca’s lifelong friend Sarah Milner read a touching poem that Rebecca had written for her about their friendship, which said their bond would never be broken.
The eulogy ended with two of Rebecca’s favourite phrases: “Always look forward, never look back,” and “headphones on, world off”.
