In this week’s Guardian, businessman Howard Cook talks of his disappointment at having his plans for an eco-retirement village at Ponderosa rejected by the Secretary of State.

We also look at the Heckmondwike priest who was the inspiration behind the TV series Father Brown which is currently gracing our screens on daytime TV.

A year after bungling thieves set off a fire alarm with sparks from their chainsaw while trying to steal Spenborough’s civic silverware, the jewels in the town’s crown are finally back in their rightful place.

Plus we have lots of pictures of the first snow of the winter.
