Jon and Paul are on the ball
TWO local footballing favourites have started a brand new soccer school to help young stars of the future.
Jon Worthington and Paul Bolland, who began their careers at Huddersfield Town and Bradford City respectively, have set up the BW Pro Soccer Training Academy, which will serve children from ages seven to 11.
The half term courses will include a range of activities from skill and technique drills and speed and agility training to fun and games and mini cup tournaments.
Jon, who grew up in Gomersal and still lives there, said it was a great opportunity for them to give something back to aspiring professionals.
“We are both local lads and we both want to give our knowledge and experience back to the kids,” he said.
“We have 25 years of league football experience between us, so we feel like we can give kids in the area a good insight.”
Jon, who began his career with the Terriers, went on to make more than 200 appearances for the club, and was captain for four years.
He later joined Bradford City where he played under former Town manager Peter Jackson, and now plies his trade for FC Halifax Town. Paul began his career with the Bantams before spells at Notts County, Grimsby and Mansfield Town.
Paul said: “I feel privileged that Jon and I are in a position to be able to offer coaching to young people in our local community.
“As a young boy coming through the ranks at the Bradford City academy I really valued the opportunity to learn from experienced football professionals. We want to develop links with local primary schools and will be running further courses throughout the area.”
The school will hold its first sessions in the October half-term holidays at Queensbury High School in Bradford. For further information visit www.bwprosocceracademy.com.
