Spen Valley High School student Joseph Kelly went through the pain barrier when he had a full leg wax for charity.

His waxing session, which took an hour, registered “11 on a scale of one to 10” for pain, according to the 14-year-old.

Joseph took up the challenge as part of the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme and his newly smooth legs raised £150 for Hollybank Trust which is close to where he lives in Roberttown.

This will be increased by gift aid.

He was offered the wax free of charge by beauticians at Tina’s Boutique in Batley.

Joseph’s next Duke of Edinburgh challenge is to do three months’ of volunteering work for Hollybank in Mirfield.

Fundraiser at Hollybank Suzanne Dyda said: “Not only did Joseph go through a leg wax but also had to spend a long time collecting in dozens of sponsorship pledges which shows true dedication.

“We are looking forward to having him working with us for a few months shortly and thank him for supporting us.”
