Julian snaps into action

WHEN redundancy hit like a bolt from the blue, Julian Holtom made a snap decision.

He would take his burgeoning hobby of photography and turn it into a fledgling business.

And that enterprise has just got a real kick-start with an official link-up with Huddersfield Town FC and talks with other sporting clubs.

Mirfield-based Julian said: "It took a lot of hard work and door-knocking, but I have managed to get in with Town and other talks are ongoing.

"Who knows what the future holds?"

Julian, who is 43 and lives in Sands Lane, was made redundant from his well-paid job last summer. He had been with computer games firm Team 17 for 10 years, latterly as lead artist.

"Losing my job was a huge blow," he said. "I never saw it coming. I was left very much to my own devices so I took what was a burgeoning hobby and turned it into the start of a business.

"Photography had been a hobby and went well with my artistic working background."

Julian has lived in Mirfield for five years. A former pupil of Earlsheaton High School, his family is from Dewsbury and he previously lived in Ravensthorpe.

Sport is just one aspect of his new business. "I am into all kinds of commercial photography," he said. "I have managed to start turning my life around but there is a lot to do. I am not out of the woods yet. I just have to maximise my opportunities."

Julian Holtom Photography is now the official photo agency for Huddersfield Town for the rest of the season. Under the agreement, the JHP brand will be displayed around the Galpharm Stadium on match days.

Alisdair Straughan, head of communications for the club, said: "The relationship with JHP has been extremely productive. I hope working with Town will help a growing local business achieve its own ambitions."

Julian said: "This deal is a great opportunity for me. I look forward to developing the relationship with the club."
