A GROUP of friends in Cleckheaton are planning to take the leap of a lifetime to raise money for a children’s cancer charity.

Five employees of the Obediah Brooke pub in Bradford Road are doing a sponsored skydive on Wednesday for Clic Sargent.

One of the divers, Caroline Sultana, said: “Three months ago we decided we should do something big to raise money for Clic Sargent and we did not want to sit in a bath of beans, because that’s what everybody seems to do. Somebody then suggested a skydive and we were really up for that.

“The more money we manage to raise, the more it will be worth terrifying ourselves for!”

Caroline, along with Sam Reagan, Naomi Julienne, Jess Trim and Michal Grabelski have already managed to raise more than £1,600 through donations from the pub’s regulars.

Caroline said: “They have been amazing – to have raised all that money just from a collection in the pub shows how strongly people feel about the charity. One of the hardest challenges will be getting up at 8.30am, which, when you work at a pub, is very early!”

The five will each do a tandem jump with a professional skydiver, from a plane which will take off from Brigg Airfield, Lincolnshire.

Sam said skydiving was a whole new level of fundraising than she was used to.

She said: “I have done a few charity things in the past, so fundraising is nothing new for me, but skydiving is! I feel okay about it at the moment, but I’m sure as soon as I’m looking out of the side of the plane, I’ll be a lot more nervous!”
