A SHOP-OWNER in Cleckheaton could claim to be Yorkshire’s luckiest newsagent after a fourth lottery win from his shop.

Kamal Devesher, owner of Paperland in Northgate, has received a certificate from the National Lottery which says that yet another lucky punter has won more than £100,000 on a lottery ticket bought from his shop in September.

The winner has chosen to remain anonymous.

Kamal has now had four big winners in the past eight years, including £1.6m jackpot winners Stephen and Janette Wright, who bought their ticket in 2008.

Kamal said: “We are a very lucky shop, and I am proud that people know us as being just that!

“There are so many people who come from miles around to buy lottery tickets here.”

Kamal, 56, moved to Britain from Delhi, India, in 1980, and opened the shop in 2002 after leaving his job as an insurance broker in Bradford.

He said he hoped that the luck will continue for the shop in the future.

He said: “Only last weekend we had a woman win more than £1,000 after she got five numbers on her ticket, so the luck we have is quite remarkable!”

“I am hopeful for more winners at the shop – I certainly hope our luck has not run out yet!”

In addition to the recent wins, he also had a £50,000 win in 2004, and another £100,000 winner in 2010.
