Kirklees Council to survey “at risk” buildings in Batley and Dewsbury

Kirklees Council are carry out a survey of “at risk” listed buildings in Batley and Dewsbury after being granted funding from English Heritage.

The council will undertake external checks and photographic surveys of more than 100 listed buildings using a group of trained local volunteers.

The data will then be used to compile a report and determine which buildings are “at risk” of damage and disrepair.

Coun Peter McBride, member for Investment and Regeneration, said: “Kirklees has many fine examples of Victorian buildings as well as other styles and not all of these are in a good condition.

“We will be making the most of the help available from English Heritage to assess what is out there and what needs to be improved.”
