The annual Great North Kirklees Run gets underway next week at Spenborough Athletics Track.
The event, organised by Legacy Sport and which is part of the Great Spen Valley Health Challenge, is on Thursday.
Around 250 children from partner schools will take part – and adults can also put their fitness to the test in a family fun run which takes place straight afterwards.
The kids’ races start at 4.15pm with the adult race from 5.30pm. The fun run is any distance up to 5k – the entry fee is £5 and all proceeds will go to the Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice
Shaun Fox from Legacy Sport which is based at Spen Valley Sports College said: “The Great North Kirklees Run has become a popular event in the school calendar and, for the second year running, we’re holding the fun run so that adults can also take part.
“It’s very informal, the emphasis is on fun and we raise money for a good cause at the same time.”
Anyone interested can turn up on the day.
Legacy Sport and Sustrans will also be holding a Cycle in the Park half-term event for children aged four and upwards.
“We’ve been holding Bikeability classes in local schools which have been really popular,” added Shaun.
“So we’ve decided to build on this and hold a fun Cycle in the Park event at Spen Valley Sports College on Thursday October 31 “
Helmets and bikes are available and the event is free
