CYCLE OF LIFE: Liz Robinson during her training in Scarborough earlier this

AFTER shedding five stones, Liz Robinson has decided to take on a new challenge – which is 760 miles long!

Liz, who lives in St Peg Lane, Cleckheaton, will undertake a mammoth bike ride to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital, and her incredible journey begins tomorrow in Glasgow.

Liz began a diet and excercise regime last year and has since lost five stones, but felt that she was still not where she wanted to be, so decided to choose cycling.

She said: “Once I had lost all that weight, I found it difficult to lose any more, so I felt I had to push myself that bit further and do something challenging.

“It seemed perfect to do something like this, and it is all for a good cause as well. I’m wanting to carry on with the cycling once I have finished the route too.”

Liz, 37, will be raising the money for a new neurosurgery wing on the famous children’s hospital in London, and has already received pledges worth nearly £2,000.

She began training for the bike ride nine weeks ago, and an intensive regime has seen her cycle 200 miles a week. Her nine-day journey will begin in Uddingston near Glasgow, and will take in towns and cities all over the country – riding distances of up to 110 miles a day.

Liz has been out of her comfort zone during her training, and has found herself giving up some of the things she loves.

She said: “I have had to stop smoking so I am able to ride up the hills – I have gone cold turkey on the cigs and not had a drink for last eight weeks while I train! For a social pussycat such as myself, that in itself has also been a massive challenge!”
