Councillor Marielle O’Neill and community group Batley Smile have organised it so that people can “sit down, have a cuppa and talk to each other about the loss of our beloved MP.”

The tribute event follows a previous one which packed out Batley Market Place and Trafalgar Square in London on Wednesday.

The Batley and Spen MP died on June 16 after she was attacked outside Birstall’s library.

Coun O’Neill (Lab, Batley West) said: “We will show the world that, in Jo’s words, we have more in common than the things that divide us.

“Batley and Spen is a strong community and we won’t let hate and bigotry divide us.”

Tomorrow’s event will go ahead at the Market Place town hall between 2pm-4pm.

Free refreshments will be provided.

Spices and Rices, Batley Business Association and Fastrack Solutions Limited have sponsored the memorial.
