Breaking news...

police are appealing for witnesses to two robberies in Batley and Heckmondwike last night (Thursday).

The first was on Healey Lane, Batley, at around 10.15pm when a 32-year old man was robbed of his mobile phone and wallet by two men. The victim was assaulted by the suspects who then ran away towards West Park Road.

They were two white men in their late teens or early 20s and around 5ft 6in tall. One wore a light coloured hooded top. Both had scarves covering their faces.

At 11pm a second robbery took place on White Lee Road at its junction with Dale Lane in Heckmondwike.

The 36-year old victim was assaulted by two men who tried to rob him of his mobile phone, but were disturbed by a witness. They fled empty handed.

The men police are looking for were also white, in their late teens and were around 5’7” tall. Both were wearing light coloured hooded tops with the hoods up. Due to the similarities in the descriptions and the locations where each incident took place, police are linking the two crimes.

Enquiries into both robberies are ongoing and police are appealing for any witnesses to contact the Kirklees Robbery Team via 101, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
