CLECKHEATON could be home to Britain’s next beauty queen after a local girl made it to the final of a nationwide pageant.

Anastasia Legge, of Whitechapel Road, has reached the final of Miss Teen Great Britain after winning the ‘popularity’ section of the event.

Her participation in the contest started with a school trip to see the Clothes Show Live last December, when was offered the chance to enter the Miss Teen Great Britain contest.

She won the Miss Teen Popularity section of the competition’s semi-final stage last month.

Her proud mum, Ashleigh Kirkwood, said: “This is the first time she has entered anything like this, and I couldn’t be more proud of her. I just couldn’t believe she had done so well – she is coming up to a really exciting time in her life and I am so pleased for her.”

The winner of Miss Teen Great Britain will be awarded a host of prizes, including cosmetics, professional photoshoots and £1,000 in cash.

Anastasia’s story is even more remarkable, as only two years ago, she was hit by a car, fracturing her pelvis in three places.

Following her successful recovery, Anastasia is now looking forward to the competition. If she wins she would like to help other people.

She said: “I am just so excited and really happy I have got this far. I am looking forward to the competition in Blackpool. I would like to help cancer research and also support dyslexic children – I want to show people that they can achieve their dreams so matter what.”

“I also suffer from dyslexia – I have had difficulties at school, but I have always come out on top. My GCSEs are coming up this year, so I will try my best and hopefully come out on top again!”

Anastasia was sponsored through the event by Pretty Little Princess Parties in Cleckheaton, who paid her £300 sponsorship fee to enter the final.

The final of Miss Teen Great Britain will be held at The Globe, Blackpool, on September 30.
