LIGHT UP Pupils from Norristhorpe School had free bike lights fitted.

Free bike lights were fitted to more than 40 pupils’ bikes as part of road safety week.

Sustrans, which owns the Spen Valley Greenway, fitted the lights at Norristhorpe School, and the Streetbikes charity checked over the pupils’ brakes, gears and fittings to make sure the cycles were safe.

Carly Webster, Sustrans schools officer, said: “We are working with schools in Kirklees that have higher levels of congestion and road traffic accidents around the school.

“Couns Vivenne Kendrick and Steve Hall came also to help support the event and thought it was great to ensure that children are riding bikes that are safe and properly set up.”
