Rogue Callers target Spen home owners
BOGUS callers have been targeting Spen homes.
The Spen Valley Neighbourhood Management Group (NMG) has warned people to be vigilant after a string of bogus callers in Cleckheaton and Heckmondwike. Residents say they have been intimidated by 'professional looking' people turning up at their door.
The rogue callers have been targeting Pyenot Gardens, in Cleckheaton, and Brighton Street, in Heckmondwike.
One man said a doorstep caller asked whether he needed his roof fixing. He then talked his way into the house to make a phone call to his company, leaving the him feeling intimidated.
In a separate incident, cold callers offering cash for unwanted gold put pressure on a resident when they did not want to take up their offer.
Coun David Sheard, who chairs the NMG group, warned residents to be careful who they let into the houses.
"If they don't have ID, don't let them in. If the visit is not pre-arranged and you have any doubts about the caller, ask them to return when you can have someone with you," he said,
The callers often work in pairs, with one person distracting the homeowner while the other sneaks in.
Anyone worried about a caller can alert police on 999.
