Rotary's work goes on show

THE tireless work done by Rotary, both on our doorstep and in the farthest flung corners of the world, was showcased at an exhibition in Cleckheaton town centre.

The Thanks For Life display was on show in Central Arcade for a week with Rotarians on hand to talk about their work.

Among them was Cleckheaton Rotarian Pam Scales who has just returned from a three week trip to India, along with members from neighbouring clubs, as part of their international campaign End Polio Now.

Publicity officer David Sugden said the exhibition had been well received and had helped raise the profile of the organisation

"We even had someone bring a bag full of old spectacles after reading of our appeal in the Spenborough Guardian," he said.

"The appeal is headed by Malcolm Bentley and we are aiming at a cumulative total of 66,600 pairs by the end of our president Keith Halford's year in office."

The members were joined on one of the days by District Governor-elect Roger Percival who was impressed by the display.

"During the week we have also had donations of tools for our Tools for Self Reliance collection and some cash donations and we thank the people of Cleckheaton for their continued support for the club," added David.
