Scarecrow success for Hartshead

editorial image

PIRATES, royalty and celebrities were among special scarecrow guests visiting Hartshead at the weekend.

Scarecrows dressed as the Queen and Prince Philip, Posh and Becks, SpongeBob SquarePants, fishermen, a Mexican and flower pot men were dotted around the village for Hartshead’s first scarecrow festival.

The Rev Richard Burge said people enjoyed looking at the scarecrows and enjoyed St Peter’s Church fair.

He said: “It was a very special weekend. Seeing people smiling and walking round the village together was wonderful. People joined in right across the village and we’ve had some great comments!”

Visitors voted for their favourite creations and the winners were Spongebob, created by the Graham family, The Hartshead Welder by the Ellis family, The Fisherman by the Bentleys, and Chill Out, the Queen and Prince Philip in bed by the Williams family.

Winners were given prizes donated by Whiteley’s garden centre, Haigh Farm shop and Bennett’s Eggs.

Mr Burge added: “We are very grateful to everyone for all their help and support. Several people have asked about next year already – so we are looking forward to Hartshead Scarecrow Festival Two!”
