SCARS ON 45: The band's debut EP is launched this week

LOCAL band Scars On 45 are celebrating the release of their debut EP this week.

The five-piece acoustic indie/rock group, fronted by former Heckmondwike Grammar School pupil Danny Bemrose is signed to the Chop Shop/Atlantic Records label in the USA, home to such established acts as Led Zeppelin, James Blunt and Plan B.

Their first single, Give Me Something, was released on Tuesday and will be followed by their self-titled debut album in a matter of months.

“It’s a really exciting time for us at the moment,” said Danny, who is the lead singer.

“We spent a good few years getting absolutely nowhere but we carried on regardless and thankfully the hard work is starting to pay off.”

Chop Shop is owned by Alexandra Patsavas, music supervisor on a long line of hit TV shows and films including Gossip Girl, Grey’s Anatomy, The OC, Mad Men and The Twilight Saga films. John Rubeli, a former Atlantic Records Vice-President, runs the label.

They signed Scars On 45 in early 2010 and immediately set them to work recording their self-produced debut album which was mixed by Mark Needham, who also worked on the Killers’ number one album Hot Fuss.

Danny, whose family runs the Stuart Stage School in Heckomondwike, said: “The support the label has given us has being incredible really.

“We recorded most of the songs before we signed the deal but with their input we went back and changed things, re-recorded parts and it’s ended up sounding so much better. Everyone involved with the label are such lovely, lovely people. We feel very lucky to have them behind us.”

Although their LP is not due for release until later this year, the group has already seen their song Beauty’s Running Wild used on hit show CSI: New York.

Another track called Burn The House Down featured on the E4 show One Tree Hill, which will be aired over the summer in the UK.

The group, which has been compared with Fleetwood Mac, Coldplay and Snow Patrol, only recently returned from a three-week tour of the USA with fellow British band One Eskimo.

They will be heading out to Los Angeles at the start of February to begin a two month stint promoting Give Me Something to radio before arriving in Austin, Texas, to play the famous SXSW Festival.

“We’re under no illusion as to how much hard work it’s going to be but we can’t complain at all to be honest,” added Danny, who was also on Huddersfield Town’s books as a youngster.

“I never thought in a million years I’d eventually be touring the USA when I did my first ever gig at Liversedge Cricket Club!

“I still have nightmares about that night, I don’t think I’ll ever be that nervous again!”
