A SCHOOL’S legacy will live on in Gomersal – thanks to green-fingered youngsters.

Gomersal Middle has created a ‘legacy garden’ at the school as part of activities to mark its closure at the end of this term. It is due to become the home of Gomersal Primary School next year.

Middle School headteacher Denise Briggs invited students from Gomersal primary along with their headteacher David Warbrick to see the new garden before their move to the middle school site next year.

Mrs Briggs said: “Gomersal Middle has been on this site for over 40 years and we all felt the legacy garden was a permanent way to acknowledge the school and former pupils and staff.

“The garden consists of raised beds of herbs and flowers, a covered arbour and colourful seating will be used to provide a stimulating outside learning environment for pupils. I am delighted the buildings here will continue to be a school and that we can provide a link to the future as well as the past through this fantastic new garden.”

The primary is in the process of converting from a 300-place first school to a 420-place primary and following a £1.5m investment, will move to the Gomersal Middle School site in Oxford Road during the spring of 2013.

Mr Warbrick said: “We thank Denise, her staff and pupils for creating this area and have no doubt that the primary school will use this outdoor space for lessons as well as relaxation.

“I have a feeling it will be one of the most popular areas of the school.”
