Significant milestone for Academy
BBG Academy pupils Chloe Beck and Jake McCarthy7 join headteacher Joanne Atkinson and Dave Price from Wates Construction in the bolt-tightening ceremony.
A ‘bolt-tightening’ ceremony has taken place at BBG Academy to celebrate the progress made in construction of its £5m extension.
The event marked the completion of the 160 tonne steel frame of the academy’s new extension, being built by Wates Construction.
The work also includes the refurbishment of the existing school building and the construction of a new central ‘heart’ courtyard, which will become the school’s focal point. It will offer state-of-the-art sports facilities, a resource centre and adult learning provision, all available for community use. The school remains open throughout the building works.
Governors’ chairman Sharon Light said: “Our new buildings will enable us to honour our commitment to make BBG Academy a real community school with meeting rooms and our brand new sports hall available for use by local groups and residents.” David Price, from Wates, said: “We are delighted to mark this significant milestone in construction as the final beams of the steel frame are put into place.”
