Smiles all round as Betty and Colin wed knot

HAPPY COUPLE Colin and Betty Rawnsley.

HAPPY COUPLE Colin and Betty Rawnsley.

A chance meeting through a friend spelled true love for an retired couple.

Colin Rawnsley 80, and Betty Lockton, 82, were married at Dewsbury Town Hall after dating for two and a half years.

The couple met by chance through a mutual friend in Batley’s central arcade, in Commercial Street, and soon became an item.

Their decison to tie the knot came as Betty’s son Ian Douglas planned to move to Australia and wanted to ensure Betty would be well looked after.

On Saturday Februrary 23, Betty and Colin said their vows and signed the register in front of around 38 family members and friends.

Betty’s daughter Sue Lister was maid of honour and Colin’s son Mark took the role of best man.

Betty, of Brunswick Street, Batley, wore a cream suit edged in brown with a matching cream fascinator.

She was given away by her son Ian.

After the ceremony the bride and groom joined friends and family at the Lakeside Restaurant at Ponderosa in Heckmondwike for a celebratory meal.

The pair are now settling down to married life in Colin’s home town of Skelmanthorpe, Denby Dale, where Betty has moved to be with her new husband.

When asked how married life was treating her, Betty replied: “Alright, thanks!”

Daughter Sue said: “They had a fantastic time, with family and friends with them to share their happy day.”
